Cookie Policy
Last updated 30 September 2026
This policy explains the small amount of information Alex by INSomm stores on your device. It is written to meet the UK Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) and the EU ePrivacy Directive, alongside the UK and EU GDPR.
1. The short version
Alex uses only what it needs to work. There are no advertising cookies, no marketing pixels, no social media trackers and no cross-site profiling of any kind. We do not sell or share what is stored on your device, and nobody is building an advertising picture of you through Alex.
Because everything we store is strictly necessary to deliver the service you have asked for, it is exempt from consent requirements under regulation 6(4) of PECR and Article 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive. That is why you do not see a consent banner — not because we are skipping one.
2. What we store, and why
Alex keeps a handful of small items in your browser's own storage:
- Sign-in session — keeps you logged in between visits so you are not asked for your password on every page. Removed when you sign out.
- Device identifier — a random reference that keeps your membership signed in on one device at a time, protecting your account from sharing and misuse.
- Age confirmation — remembers that you have confirmed you are of legal drinking age, so you are not asked at every visit.
- Your display preferences — small settings such as the billing period you were last viewing.
- Payment security — during checkout, Stripe sets its own strictly necessary items to process your payment safely and prevent fraud. These are governed by Stripe's own privacy notice.
3. How long it lasts
Session items disappear when you sign out or clear your browser. The age confirmation and device reference persist so that Alex behaves as you expect on your own phone or computer, and can be cleared at any time as described below.
4. Measuring how Alex is used
We look at aggregated, de-identified counts — how many pairings were produced, which dishes come up most, whether an error is recurring — to keep the service healthy and the pairing library well stocked. This does not involve advertising trackers and does not build a profile of you as an individual.
5. Your control
You can clear or block this storage at any time in your browser settings, usually under privacy, cookies or site data. Signing out clears your session immediately.
Please note that because these items are strictly necessary, blocking them will stop Alex working: you will not be able to stay signed in, the age check will reappear on every visit, and payment may fail.
6. Third parties
The only third party that stores anything on your device through Alex is Stripe, and only during payment, for security and fraud prevention. We do not embed advertising networks, remarketing tags or social media buttons that track you.
7. More information
How we use the personal information behind these items is explained in our Privacy Policy. Questions about either are welcome at hello@insomm.co.uk.
